One of the important Muslim shrines of Termez is Hakim at-Termezi complex. (IX-XV centuries). Its historical center is a tomb of a founder of Sufi Order “Khakimi”, famous scholar of IX century, Abu Abdallah-Muhammad bini Ali bini Khusein al- Hakimi Termizi. The complex consists of mausoleum, khanakah and chillya- khona.
The building of Termezi’s mausoleum is square and crowned by sphero-conical dome. The internal decoration is quite rich: carved plaster pieces; ornaments of girih and cycle shape, floral and epigraphic patterns. The most attractive is a grave-stone made from ivory white marble. Its’ surface is decorated by floral ornaments and signs of Arabic style “sul’s”. Some inscriptions contain information about great scholar Hakim at- Termeziy.
There is a mosque near the mausoleum. The mosque has three domes; its’ mihrab wall was constructed as an extension of the western wall. From the mosque you may walk to the courtyard. Its’ floor is decorated by sophisticated brick patterns. A big khanakah with the portals facing north and south is adjoined to the oriental side of the courtyard. There is a small mausoleum with the staged grave-stone located in the eastern side of Hakimi-Termizi mausoleum.
Complex occupies a total area of 28 by 29 meters. First explorations of this object date back to 1878. Members of expedition of Museum of Oriental Cultures made first detailed measurements in 1926 – 1927s.
Detailed researching connected with restoration of the monument took place in 1955.
In 1990, country celebrated a 1000 years anniversary of this honorable sheikh under the aegis of UNESCO and reconstruction works were dedicated to this event.
