In the northwest of Old Termez there is a Fayaz-Tepa complex, one of outstanding monuments of Buddhism epoch. Its building dated from I century B.C. - III century A.D. This unique contracture was studied by leading uzbek and foreign archeologists for more than 40 years. Scientists found out that complex consisted of 3 parts: place of worship, monastery and domestic space. Each part represents a yard which is surrounded by rooms. The most old and interesting object is Stupa, dated from I century B.C. Stupa’s remains can be found here in the original.
Several pieces of fine and applied art were found here, such as: dishes with ancient Bactrian and Indian signs, remains of painted temple’s walls. All signs had a religious character: image of Buddha, Bodhisattva and other figures. But a true discovery was famous Triad made from marl limestone. Presently, this Triad is exhibited in the Museum of History, in Tashkent.
Basically, loam and unfired brick were used in building and ballast stone as additional material to strengthen walls; marl limestone and wood were used for basement and columns production.
General reconstruction works were made here since 2000. |
