Ruins of the former mighty Dorus-Saodat complex are situated in the south-west of Shahrisabz. The name of construction is translated as “Place of Power”. Family tombs of the Timurides were placed here in XV century. The complex consists of mausoleum of Jahongir, elder son of Amir Timur, Omar’s toms Timur’s second son, Hazrat Imam Mosque and Timur’s vault.
Elder son of Amir Timur Jahongir died at his 22 years in 1376. Timur planned to make his son a ruler of a great empire. But the destiny made Jahongor to leave this world in the very prime of his life. Son’s death gloomed the sovereign and Timur ordered to build up the mausoleum here in favour of his son, which became a first tomb of the complex.
Hazrat Imam Mosque was built here on the place of the former mosque in XIX century. Presently, this mosque is one of the operating and important Friday Mosques of the city. Old plane-tree growing in the yard was planted in XIV century. This tree has seen a lot during the past centuries.
Tomb intended for Amir Timur is empty as he was buried in Gur Emir Mausoleum in Samarkand.
Another important religious complex is Dorus- Tillavat referred to as “Place for reading Coran”. This complex is composed by mausoleum of Timur’s councilor Shamsiddin Kulol; Kok-Gumbaz mosque (1435) built by Timur’s grandson Ulugbek and Gumbazi-Seyidon mausoleum constructed in commemorate of Ulugbek’s descendants in XVI.
