The extant covered bazaars of Bukhara give a clear image of Bukhara as a trade city on the Great Silk Road. There were a lot of bazaars within and outside the city, but only four of them remained. They are: Toki- Zargaron, Toki-Telpak Furushon, Toki-Sarrafon and Tim Abdulla-Khan. These domes were built on the cross of two or three roads used by caravans loaded with goods.
Toki-Zargaron
One of the biggest domes was erected in 1569/70. It is called “Dome of jewelers”, as there are 36 workshops of jewelers under this cupola. It was built on the cross of two roads.
Tim Abdulla- Khan
To the south of Toki-Zargaron there is Tim Abdulla-Khan (1577), which was built during the government of the Sheybanides dynasty. Unlike the other bazaars it is a closed building. Tim is lighted by small windows built in drum, and flashlights in gallery cupolas. Even in hot days here is a cool atmosphere.
Toki-Telpak Furushon
Head wears such as tyubiteyka, kerchief, fur hats and turbans for women, men and children were sold here. Five roads led to this place, which is represented by a gallery of niches, safes and storages
Toki-Sarrafon
Under this cupola were lenders and different spices were sold.
