Bakhoutdin Nakshbandi’s memorial complex is located in 12 kilometers north-west from Bukhara, in Kasri Orifon place. This complex includes Nakshbandi’s Mausoleum, Khonaka (XVI century), Abdulfayzkhan’s mosque and minaret (XVIII century), Kushbegi mosque (XIX century) and vault of Bukhara’s rulers.
First, this complex started forming round the mausoleum, devoted to Sheik Bakhoutdin Nakshbandi, in XVI century. He was born in 1317 and distinguished himself through centuries as a famous Sufi and founder of Nakshbandi order. He called his followers up not to have a secluded and austere life. Everybody must strive to work and knowledge. Being a gifted weaver and metal graver he gave a good example to a movement’s adherents. The basic dogma of his doctrine became a “Meditation aim to satisfy Allah and take a sacrament God’s name by heart”. He executed the pilgrimage to Mecca three times; he was a student of Amir Kulyal and Khalil Genghis Sultan and Sufi.
Every day, pilgrims from all around Uzbekistan and several counties come at this shrine to honor a memory of the Great Sheik. There is a pool on the territory of complex with body of an old mulberry tree lying on the pool’s coast. This tree is holy for pilgrims; people touch it by hands to wish for health for them and their families.
It is interesting to visit the museum on the territory of complex. You will find there valuable exhibits connected with life of Sufis.
