The territory of Uzbekistan represents several natural zones. They are mountains and foothills, plains, prairies and deserts. Each zone has its rich flora and animal world.
Uzbekistan’s flora counts more than 3700 types. 20 % of them is endemic. Flowering plants prevail in the mountains. Shrubs grow in prairies, and herbaceous are in plains. In the spring, foothills are covered by tulips and iris. Fir trees, maple, hawthorn, wild apple trees, Circassian walnut, dog rose, berberis, birch grow in low-hill terrain. Quite varied is a herbal world represented by salvia, rhubarb, dock, Pskem onion.
In the desert and steppes you will find wormwood, saltwort, sandhill wattle, saxaul, tamarisk and other shrubbery.
The animal world of Uzbekistan is also various and rich. There are lizards, monitors, snakes, rodents, scorpions, turtles, ground squirrels, hedgehog, hare, foxes in the prairies and deserts. There are such kinds of birds as Richard's pipit, saxaul desert jay, desert sparrow, desert corbie, chestnut-tailed warbler and others.
Mountains are habited by boars, snow leopard, rocky-mountain goat, hares, foxes, wolfs, markhoor, goitered gazelle, muflons, badger, marten and field mouses.
There are 70 kinds of fish in rivers and lakes: Aral salmon, Amudarya trout, pike, Aral roach, Aral barbell, carp, silver crucian carp, catfish, pike perch, perch, snakehead, silver carp, grass carp. |
